Twin Lakes House System
What is the House System?
The Ron Clark Academy House System is a dynamic, exciting, and proven strategy that we are implementing to enhance our climate and culture for students and staff, developing character, whole school friendships, and school spirit.
TLE will utilize four houses: Altruismo (The house of givers), Amistad (The house of friendship), Isibindi (The house of courage), and Reveur (The house of dreamers). These houses will make up smaller communities, or teams, within our school. Each staff member and student will be sorted into one of the Houses so everyone can feel a sense of belonging to something bigger than themselves. Although each house represents different traits, history, and traditions, there is no "wrong" house to be in. Regardless of which house students are in, they are to encourage and support their own house, but also be positive towards all houses.
What if my student thinks they are in the wrong house?
Students will be sorted into their Houses by the sorting wheel. Everyone possesses the positive traits of each House but the wheel will decide and the students will be right where they should be. they will remain in their House for their entire career at TLE. Timberlake Middle School also participates in the House System so if your student graduates to TMS they will remain in their House through 8th grade.
Why is TLE implementing the House System?
- Builds character and school-wide community
- Improves attendance, behavior, and academic performance
- Provides opportunities for students to interact with peers outside of their classroom and with positive adult role models beyond just their classroom teachers
- Provides youth leadership opportunities
- Promotes a culture of constructive competition - students learn how to be team players, contribute their efforts towards a group, and discover that those who work hard and persevere are often rewarded with House points.
When will House meetings take place?
There will be 2 House meetings each month, the 2nd and the 4th Monday of the month. The 1st meeting will be a house lunch designed for team building. The 2nd meeting will be an assembly with House competitions and point opportunities. The 2nd meeting will also be where any new students will be sorted.
How do these House points work?
Throughout the year staff celebrate student accomplishments by awarding students House points that add to the overall House point total. This gives students an opportunity to be recognized and thanked for their individual contributions to the overall team. At the end of the school year, the House with the most points wins!
Will I know when my student earns points?
Absolutely! You can download the RCA House Points app (available for both Android and Apple) which will allow you to receive notifications when your student earns House points and keep track of the House points leaderboards.
How can I support my student?
- Reinforce the values associated with all the Houses.
- Have them share about the team meetings.
- Attend school events wearing the color of your student's House.
- PTA meetings will also have support opportunities.
I have students in different Houses. Now What?
Support all their Houses! Alternate the colors at events or wear a combination of colors!
